Dyson Vacuum Review: The Dyson DC16

Dyson is quick to announce that the DC16 makes use of a lithium-ion battery, much like what is found in electric or hybrid cars. What this means is that, when you vacuum, it doesn’t start out strong and then give up power as you work. The energy output is very consistent and it recharges quickly when plugged back in. Some owners comment that the battery lasts only six minutes, making it impossible to replace their regular vacuum with this unit, but that, one must remember, wasn’t the point of this handheld model. The model is meant for “in between” jobs, to pick up things in places that are more conveniently reached with a handheld device.

Like the DC15, the Dyson DC16 has a clear canister, enabling the user to see when it needs to be emptied. It will even empty itself out with the push of a button. Convenience doesn’t come cheaply, however, and the Dyson DC16 is priced at about $170.
